HIGHWAY ROBBERY: LAKEWOOD RIPS GAME 5 AWAY FROM BRONX, 69-52

Game 5 opened like the rest of Lakewood-Bronx: another rock fight with neither side finding much clean offense. Then Lakewood changed the game after halftime.

The Lightning's defensive adjustment turned Bronx possessions into a turnover trap. Lakewood finished with 19 steals, forced 23 official Gauchos turnovers and converted those mistakes into 27 points off turnovers and 17 fast-break points.

The Thompson Twins were at the center of the pressure, combining for six steals and two blocks. Their repeated takeaways helped Lakewood turn a one-point halftime edge into a 33-17 second-half advantage.

Giannis Antetokounmpo led Lakewood with 16 points, made all six of his free throws and added two steals and a block. Allen Iverson scored 12 with five assists, and Aaron Gordon added 10 points without a turnover.

Bronx still shot 48 percent and scored 42 points in the paint, but the Gauchos went 2-for-14 from three and reached the line only five times. Chet Holmgren led Bronx with 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Tyrese Maxey had six points and four assists but committed eight turnovers against Lakewood's pressure.

Lakewood won 69-52 and took a 3-2 series lead. Game 6 returns to Bronx. Game 7 remains if necessary.
